Job description 

What you'll do

  • Independently own and address and resolve data and applications issues, provide updates and perform root cause analysis.
  • Application support process/service management knowledge Incident management, problem management, Defect tracking, change management, Reports, SLAs
  • Plan, execute and implement applications and configuration change procedures
  • Supervise all alerts related to application and system procedures and provide services proactively.
  • Maintain good professional relationships with counterparts of engineering, Platform support and end Users etc.
  • Gain and maintain expertise in flow of application process and systems related to domain
  • Flexibility - Be part of a team that manages applications/systems 16x7 on rotation basis to ensure best experience to customers and work in the assigned shift timings
  • Coordinate across teams and resolve all complex application and system issues ranging in complexity (Low to Critical)
  • Install and prepare tools required for proper functioning of applications on regular basis.
  • Manage all production system and recommend ways to optimize performance and provide solution to problems and prepare reports for all problems

 

What you'll bring

  • Knowledge of operating systems, networking, databases, distributed computing, distributed file system, ETL and application stacks
  • Good understanding on cloud fundamentals and exposure to GCP/Azure/Hive/Spark.
  • Mandatory to have working knowledge of SQL and Databases
  • Nice to have Big query exposure.
  • Troubleshoot and triage issues related to Data ETL framework, Workflow management tools.
  • Working experience on supporting of Data Pipeline applications built on Scala Spark or PySpark or Hadoop or Hive running in scheduling tools like Automic or Airflow.
  • Debugging skills on Cluster related issues.
  • Hands-on knowledge on ITSM/Service Now/OSC/Jira, Splunk/xMatters tools
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Listening ability and patience
  • Critical thinking, Ability to do complex Problem solving

About Team:   We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our Compute Infrastructure Team. As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the compute infrastructure and related service offerings that supports Walmart’s critical systems hosted mainly in Data Centers, Distribution Centers and Stores. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability, performance, and scalability of our compute resources and services. This role requires a strong understanding of Linux OS, system architecture, virtualization technologies, and a passion for optimizing and automating processes.   What you'll do: Design and implement scalable and reliable compute infrastructure solutions to support our organization's critical systems. Experience working in Linux (Ubuntu / RHEL / SuSE / others ) and Mac environments and good understanding on clustered/distributed systems. Strong knowledge of system architecture, server hardware, virtualization technologies ( VMware, Nutanix , KVM, Hyper-V), and containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes). Development Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Ansible, Bash, or PowerShell and Good understating on REST API. Experience with CI/CD tools and configuration management tools like Puppet, Ansible, or Chef. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their compute infrastructure requirements and provide technical expertise to develop effective solutions. Manage and maintain compute resources, including server hardware, virtualization platforms, and container orchestration systems. Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize compute resources for maximum efficiency. Automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and configuration management processes using tools such as Ansible, Puppet and Concord. Ensure high availability and disaster recovery of compute systems through effective backup and replication strategies. Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, including performance problems, network connectivity, and application compatibility. Perform regular system maintenance tasks, including patching, firmware upgrades, and security vulnerability assessments and remediation. Develop and maintain system documentation, including standard operating procedures, configuration guides, and best practices.
