Job description Position Summary: The successful candidate will perform engineering and related technical assignments utilizing best manufacturing engineering practices and principles. Constructs, advances, and implements methods for products and processes involving advanced systems that support organizational quality, cost, volume, and new product release objectives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Support the assembly & testing of products in manufacturing and determine the best tooling, equipment, and other manufacturing aids necessary to meet objectives. Analyze requirements and system design documentation in order to assist in the development of efficient, repeatable manufacturing processes. Actively participate in the new product introduction process, providing input on manufacturing related processing issues in order to meet or exceed quality, cost, throughput, and manufacturability goals. Participate in BOM development and modification with Engineering and Configuration teams. Develop layouts, workstations, and process flows necessary to produce products in a high quality, cost effective manner while meeting demand requirements. Create, implement, modify, and monitor manufacturing procedures that accurately reflect approved methods, and assist in writing standard operating procedures as needed to meet required guidelines. Assist in the training of manufacturing employees in the effective methods and processes to produce products. Identify bottlenecks and make recommendation for their removal. Identify opportunities to improve quality issues and reduce manufacturing costs. Develop alternative methods toward improving production efficiencies and effectiveness. Take an active role in providing cost analysis of various alternatives to issues or process improvements, and help manage the implementation of improvement efforts. Actively participate in the creation, implementation, and monitoring of statistical process control techniques, including control chart development and the identification of required support tools or equipment. Must be able to support and understand controlled experimentation and data interpretation to make informed decisions. Assist development and operations with diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution of performance issues as required, and drive them to resolution. Identify out of control variances, investigate reasons, suggest solutions, implement, and follow-up to assure closure. Maintain baseline metrics for identified processes. Create and update routings to reflect manufacturing methods. Create rework documentation as required. Provide input into the Material Review Board. Some travel, less than 10%. Additional Responsibilities: Be an advocate for getting high performance, robust designs incorporated into company products. Maintain timeliness to schedule on assigned tasks. Effectively balance work on multiple projects and teams simultaneously. Maintain library of key lessons learned and best practices. Work independently or as a team and be adaptive to changing goals and priorities. Provide effective communications to peers, manufacturing personnel, and management on all relevant issues. Travel to contract manufacturers as required to establish, maintain, and improve quality and throughput. Other duties as assigned by your supervisor. Minimum Qualifications: 2 years of experience and success in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or similar discipline. Proficient in the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the electronic/mechanical field. Strong statistical and analytical skill and mind set. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting ability. Demonstratable proficiency in several of the following disciplines: SPC, Cpk analysis, Line Balancing, FMEA, Gage R&R, Taguchi/Fishbone diagrams, DOE, Six Sigma, DFM/DFX. Ability to thrive working in a fast paced and expanding environment. Very strong organization, multi-tasking, time management and documentation skills Strong communication skills. PC literate in the use of MS Office suite. Must be a US citizen, eligible for Secret security clearance. Desired Qualifications: Experience and knowledge of new product introduction cycles Tooling and fixture design experience Experience and knowledge of surface mount technologies Kaizen event experience
