What We'll Bring:

You will manage a variety of tasks such as major incident support, none project driven system upgrades, complex or manual patching processes, infrastructure configuration changes, deploy service improvements and automation that can be pushed into our 1st and 2nd line teams for operation.

 

You will promote a culture of DevOps within the operations teams you work with to foster a high degree of cooperation, learning and coordination between these areas.  

 

Individuals within this team will be expected to be on call once an appropriate level of onboarding is met after probation.
What You'll Bring:

This role is to be part of our specialist Network and Infrastructure Operational Team, responsible for the day-to-day activities required to run UK business IT systems. These include:

  • 3rd line fault resolution and troubleshooting of incidents.
  • Technical escalation for our 1st and 2nd line teams.
  • None project driven work including system upgrades, patching and inventory mgmt. and infrastructure configuration changes.  
  • Deploy service improvements and automation of processes.
  • Adherence to the Change Management process
  • Support small works projects that do not require full project management and governance wrapper.  
  • Work closely with the SRE team, to deliver resolutions and develop your skills alongside these experts.
  • Identify, revise, and enhance department procedures and best practices and standards.
  • Support the escalation of issues and assignment to the relevant 3rd party  
  • Own release and rollback through our Route to Live deployment process.
  • Sharing knowledge and processes with members of the 1st and 2nd line teams so that we are constantly pushing work towards first line fix.
  • Contribute to the development of team members through coaching and mentoring
  • Be part of an on-call function once an appropriate level of onboarding is met after probation.

 

Required Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • Excellent understanding of Operating System(s) configuration and troubleshooting;
  • Windows Server, Linux RedHat
  • Good understanding of virtualisation tools and technologies
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft System Centre
  • SCOM, SCCM,
  • Understanding of backup technologies
  • CommVault
  • Exposure to cloud service solutions
  • Azure/AWS (Paas/IaaS)
  • Exposure to SAN storage technologies
  • Good troubleshooting/fault resolution skills
  • Good understanding of Server and storage tiered architectures
  • An understanding of networking principles
  • Working experience with automation techniques (scripting, automation tools and development languages)
  • Good knowledge of scripting languages, particularly PowerShell/Bash/Python
  • Creation and support of Ansible playbooks
  • Understanding of Source Control
  • Use of automation/orchestration/workflow tools
  • Some knowledge of Microsoft .NET language
  • Working understanding of pipeline/deployment tooling
  • Good knowledge of DevOps principles
  • Adopting and operating within ITIL best practices.
  • Managing workload using an ITSM service tool
  • Willingness to learn new technology skills and Infrastructure techniques to keep pace with improvements in infrastructure process.
  • Ability to manage third party vendor and suppliers in fault resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
