Data sits at the core of this transformation and by really taking time to manage and govern our data well, we can ensure that operational processes run smoothly and that our regulatory and other legal responsibilities are discharged proficiently.
This role, sits within the Data Management chapter and is required to establish and maintain effective set of data controls that will clearly demonstrate that our Data Standards and the overarching Data and Information Policy. Demonstrating that we have a really strong grip on data is a key part of our Data Strategy and will underpin the drive to get to an overall DCAM score of >3.5 before the end of FY24. The role holder work closely with key business stakeholders from across BT Business to instantiate and then operate a suitable data controls and drive improvements to allow these controls to function in a highly automated way with a visible set of outcome measures.
The role holder will also take on a shared responsibility to help push forward the agenda of the data management chapter which includes elements of data governance, data architecture and data quality management; taken together these activities will collectively improve the way the company looks after, and benefits from, the data it relies upon.
What you’ll be doing
• Driving the implementation of activities that will clearly demonstrate that data standards covering Privacy, Governance, Retention, Quality and Architecture are soundly implemented across BT Business.
• Liaising closely with the Group Data team to incrementally improve the set of controls in use to improve automation and strive for absolute clarity in terms of the “definition of done” for each one.
• Working alongside data risk professionals to capture and manage data related risks.
• Taking shared ownership of the Data & AI targets to achieve agreed levels of externally assessed data management competence (e.g. DCAM)
• Working alongside the rest of the Data Management Chapter to influence the direction of architectural blueprints so as to embed good data management principles.
• Working within existing data policies, standards and procedures to demonstrate consistency and ongoing compliance.
• Mentoring more junior team members and support their professional development.
What you’ll need:
• Have at least 18 months experience in a Data related role.
• To demonstrate understanding of current and emerging data governance tools and practises and be able to recommend how they might be applied to support the implementation of our data standards.
• Be familiar with Data Management principles and assessment methods such as DCAM.
• Be familiar with sound data engineering practises on cloud based data platforms like GCP
• Experience of Service Design, Benefit Modelling, Agile delivery (especially SAFe), CI, CD
• Experience of Data Engineering and Data Movement (ETL,ELT,CDC,Kafka)
• Ability to communicate in both the business jargon and the technology jargon, and translate effectively between the two.
• Experience in performing capability gap analysis.
