Job description Job Summary: This position is for the Director of Engineering for our GATR product line of Inflatable Satellite Antennas. Candidate should have experience with military antenna components, modems and power supplies. Directs and provides leadership to respective engineering department. Provides guidance and direction through close coordination and oversight of first and second line managers. Establishes objectives and long-range goals of the engineering department that are consistent and in-line with that of the business. Ensures engineering department is appropriately staffed, correctly trained, embodies the appropriate talents and skillsets, has a sound succession plan that does not have single points of failure, and supports employee career planning. Provides technical consultation and council to the VP Engineering and supports the establishment of best practices and continuous improvement throughout all of Engineering and especially within respective engineering department. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction and incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Experience with military antenna components, modems and power supplies Direct experience developing custom mechanical enclosures and PCB assemblies Knowledge of military environmental testing requirements Provide leadership and direct engineering staff Ensures engineering staff follow industry standard engineering best practices and incorporate industry best practices as continuous improvement to the engineering department Directs and controls organizational activities through first and second line managers and direct staff Acts as liaison with other managers and customer representatives concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, or contractual clarification Participates in the performance evaluation process and recommends salary adjustments and personnel actions to include hiring, discipline, recognition and termination Motivates, delegates, coaches and trains subordinates Attends briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives, when necessary Participates in customer contract negotiations, when necessary Directs fact-finding in support of proposal development, to include cost and schedule estimates Keeps abreast of new technologies and new techniques and identifies technology development requirements for the Engineering Department Supports Engineering in the day to day activities of the organization including defining and implementing strategic technical direction, short and long term planning Directs the continual developments of the organization in terms of personnel, training, process definition/execution, and discipline Resolves conflicts/problems at all levels within engineering department Provides and supervise overall technological direction Monitor, track, and report on engineering department in regards to engineering efficiency, engineering discipline specific metrics, regular product and project updates, and areas for improvement Coordinates planning, organization, budgeting, and specifications of all engineering projects and assures timely and high quality delivery Minimum Job Requirements: Four-year college degree, in engineering, or other related technical discipline plus twelve years’ related experience, with a minimum of five years’ supervisory experience. Experience to include exercising creativity in technical direction and successful strategy development. Ability to interpret technical contract requirements. Ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing, and deal with employees and managers at all levels in, engineering and other functional organizations. Must be able to demonstrate the mental agility to work in a functional/matrix organization. Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
