Job description 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will work in small teams with colleagues and clients to build the strategies, capabilities, systems, and processes needed to deliver bottom-line results and ensure those results will be sustained.

Our work is about coaching others to achieve success in implementing new approaches and delivering lasting outcomes. You'll have the opportunity to manage projects and progress with minimal supervision, including tracking metrics, handling complex analyses, and preparing communications to report back to client and internal leadership. Additionally, you'll develop practical recommendations and contribute to team discussions on implications of analysis; identifying implementation challenges.

You'll work alongside the client’s staff on each project, assisting with implementation tasks. This could include facilitating working sessions with front-line and supervisors, connecting with and motivating the client team, or developing skills of McKinsey or client team members when appropriate, principally through coaching. You'll also solicit feedback from team members to develop your own skills. Common traits of those successful in this role are leadership, integrity, a sharp analytical mind, creativity, and the ability to work with people across all levels in an organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree; master’s degree is a plus
  • 4+ years of work experience in a bank, lending, insurance or a fintech company in product management and/or digital marketing
  • Strong record of academic achievement and clear demonstration of leadership in a work, academic, and/or extracurricular setting
  • Ability to identify opportunities for growth and subsequently take a leadership role in exploring new ideas
  • Proven experience in applying well-developed problem solving skills (quantitative, conceptual, analytical)
  • Comfortable with significant client interaction and interest in building relationships
  • Strong interest in and passion for coaching or mentoring others
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English
  • Willingness to travel

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH You will be a part of McKinsey’s Manufacturing and Supply Chain (MSC) service line under the global Operations practice - specifically, MSC’s tech-enablement and analytics wing, MSC-X. You will be based in the Chennai or Gurugram office and will travel frequently to serve our clients onsite. MSC-X comprises a suite of internal and third-party tools, proprietary analytics, and benchmarking databases that accelerates diagnostics and transformations in the manufacturing and supply chain domain. You will work directly with our clients and McKinsey colleagues, spending substantial time at our clients’ manufacturing facilities that span a variety of industries. The team primarily supports clients in India, but opportunities in the greater region and beyond sometimes arise as well. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will play an active role in manufacturing shop floor transformations for Indian clients involving the application of digital tools and analytics, as well as solving manufacturing/production related issues in a variety of industry verticals. You will spend a significant part (>70-80%) of your time working with the MSC practice and consulting teams in McKinsey to help our clients solve complex problems in the manufacturing domain. Common topics addressed by our teams include: yield and throughput enhancements; unlocking workforce productivity; unlocking capacity in manufacturing plants; reducing cost and defects from poor quality production; ensuring reliable, flexible and safe production; as well as maximizing asset returns in production. You will gather data from clients, analyze the data, and conduct diagnostics on the overall manufacturing health and performance by leveraging our digital and advanced analytical capabilities. Your toolkit will include building and deploying digital manufacturing applications on partner IoT platforms, sensor-driven diagnostics, smart OEE, ITOT foundations, etc. Through your work, you will have opportunities to present results to client leadership teams and implement recommendations in collaboration with client team members. You will relay what you have learned to our internal team and factor in these learnings to further develop, improve and maintain McKinsey’s proprietary MSC-X tools and other knowledge development projects. There is flexibility to hire at knowledge analyst or senior knowledge analyst levels depending on your overall experience. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's or master's degree in industrial or mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, manufacturing or operations management (supplemented by technical training), with a strong quantitative underpinning and an outstanding academic record 1+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing/analytics firm solving manufacturing/production/shop floor related planning and operational problems Coding skills in Excel VBA/Excel Macros/R/Python/other open-source language is a must Exposure to manufacturing and production planning modules of MES or ERP solutions like SAP, Oracle, etc. is good to have Experience in energy consumption, yield improvements, quality improvements, asset and labor productivity is desirable Exposure to industries like CPG, automotive, electronics, life sciences, metals and mining etc. is a plus Excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes and recommend solutions Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization and to collaborate within a team Skills to communicate complex ideas effectively
