The Security Research AI team is committed to protecting customers from social engineering threats such as phishing across web browsers, applications, email, and chat using web-scale AI/ML within the advanced Microsoft Defender suite. In parallel, the Data Security and Compliance group focuses on developing sophisticated intelligent systems to assist enterprises in managing and complying with expanding data volumes and evolving regulations, powering Microsoft Purview with cutting-edge technologies to deliver top-tier enterprise data protection, eDiscovery, auditing, information governance, and privacy solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

AI-Powered Threat Mitigation:

 

You will be responsible for developing advanced algorithms and models using artificial intelligence and machine learning to proactively detect and neutralize social engineering attacks, including phishing and impersonation techniques.

 

Bringing the State of the Art to Products:

Your role will involve staying updated with the latest research and best practices in the field of AI and security, and applying this knowledge to enhance the effectiveness of our products in Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Purview suites. You will also need to build a strong network and foster a positive work environment.

 

Data Acquisition and Analysis:

You will need to understand where to source relevant data for project completion and employ querying, visualization, and reporting techniques to describe the acquired data. This includes handling data format, quantity, identities, and other properties.

 

Machine Learning Expertise:

You will leverage your knowledge of various machine learning solutions and algorithms to determine the most suitable approach for achieving project objectives. You will also be responsible for understanding modeling techniques, data preparation, training, optimization, and evaluation methods, while being aware of potential issues like data leakage, bias/variance tradeoff, and methodological limitations.

 

Coding and Development:

You will be actively involved in coding and development tasks, writing necessary scripts in the appropriate languages such as T-SQL, U-SQL, KQL, Python, R, etc., as well as developing operational models that run at scale through partnership with data engineering teams.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications - Required:

  • Proficient in utilizing statistical, analysis, and machine learning tools to implement intelligent data solutions, with a preference for experience in deep learning and LLMs applied to various domains like graph learning, IR, NLP, and computer vision.
  •  Skilled in handling large datasets, utilizing big data tools, and proficient in scripting languages such as Excel, SQL, Python, Matlab, R, C#, and PowerBI.
  • Over 4 years of professional experience building and deploying ML solutions at scale for real-world problems.
  • Holds a Bachelor's or Master's degree with coursework related to Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Prompt Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Possesses excellent cross-group and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to articulate solutions effectively.
  • Additional experience in areas such as cyber security, fraud detection, regulatory compliance, enterprise business processes, legal discovery, etc., is advantageous but not obligatory.

 

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
    - This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Familiarity with statistical modeling and data mining techniques for performance analysis including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, time series analysis, and clustering. Understanding and experience with machine learning algorithms and techniques such as classification, regression, clustering, dimensionality reduction, and ensemble methods.
