JOB DESCRIPTION

D. E. Shaw India Software Private Limited is seeking an exceptionally capable interaction designer to join our Hyderabad-based Design and User Experience group and work on its core web platform, which serves as the underlying infrastructure for all web application development across the firm.

What you’ll do day-to-day

You will take complex user scenarios and convert them into simple, fluid, and delightful experiences, and drive innovation through visual, interaction, and information design. You will be working and co-creating with talented and diverse, multi-disciplinary teams and individuals across the organization, and must have strong understanding of each facet of the design processes as you will partner with BU Heads, Product Managers, Team Leads, and Developers to shape end-to-end experiences from conceptualization to production. You’ll conceptualize, design, and prototype new features and components of the firm’s web and mobile platform (Design System); think visually while successfully and effectively communicating design ideas; and strategically design UIs using evidence based best practices. You’ll create paper prototypes and appropriate high-fidelity image mockups to be converted into interactive prototypes using prototyping tools and/or HTML/CSS/JavaScript depending on the project requirements. You’ll develop and present designs to internal stakeholders and other team members, serve as the go-to person for the platform’s design system recommendations, while working closely with development teams, business analysts, and project owners throughout all phases of product development. You’ll have to pioneer and drive initiatives of higher impact across business groups; continuously uphold and increase the quality of products in terms of their user experience; and maintain and systematically improve design standards to align with the industry’s best practices. You’ll be creating and supporting a diverse and inclusive culture where all voices are heard and where we are enabled to do our best work. You’ll have to understand agile workflow and have the ability to drive the design process/roadmap for both near and long-term products, optimizing them across releases. You should be able to come up with strategic thinking, operational efficiency for driving compelling user experiences. You’ll need to communicate through various means, design briefs to status updates, through various team’s communication channels. You’ll work closely with various stakeholders, including interaction and visual designers, product managers, engineering PMs, software engineers, QA folks, higher management in a highly collaborative environment. You’ll need to hire, promote, and develop the designers on the team. You’ll actively work with them to develop individual career paths and growth opportunities.

Who we’re looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in product design, industrial design, or information design from a reputable university.
  • At least 2 years of experience in interface and interaction design, including at least one year of experience in designing data intensive applications.
  • Demonstrated excellence in Interaction Design, User Research and Usability Testing methodologies and processes is required.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience creating user-centric design solutions.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work under deadline constraints.
  • A continuous learner when it comes to design, UX, and technology, who can integrate these learnings into their work.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and roles to create, define, deliver, and support effective designs.
  • Have strong verbal and writing communication skills to be able to articulate your ideas with various stakeholders.
