Role description:

This role will form an integral part of our Global Excellence Centre (GEC) – Arcadis’ centralized and fully integrated project delivery group. Our GEC is made up of more than 3,000 talented individuals working in offices across Romania, India and Philippines, providing Capability, Capacity and a Competitive Advantage across a wide array of unique projects and services, in collaboration with our global businesses.

The Piping Engineer cum Designer plays a crucial role in the design, development, and implementation of piping systems for various industrial projects. This role involves a blend of engineering expertise and design skills to ensure the efficient and safe transportation of fluids and gases within a facility or plant. The Piping Engineer cum Designer collaborates with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, project managers, and drafters, to create accurate and effective piping solutions.

Your role will include, but is not limited to:

  • Piping Design: Develop detailed piping layouts, isometric drawings, and schematics using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, considering project specifications, industry standards, and safety guidelines. Read P&IDs, equipment layouts, and architectural plans and understand their relationship to develop accurate and coordinated piping models per industry best practices.
  • Material Selection: Identify appropriate piping materials based on factors such as fluid compatibility, temperature, pressure, and corrosion resistance, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Stress Analysis: Conduct stress and flexibility analysis on piping systems using engineering software to ensure structural integrity and adherence to design codes and standards.
  • Equipment Integration: Integrate piping systems with other equipment, such as pumps, valves, and heat exchangers, ensuring proper alignment, connection, and support.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with process engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather project requirements, provide technical expertise, and address design challenges effectively.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that piping designs meet safety and environmental regulations, following industry standards and guidelines to prevent leaks, failures, or hazardous conditions.
  • Cost and Efficiency Optimization: Identify opportunities for cost reduction, energy efficiency, and streamlined installation while maintaining the overall functionality and performance of piping systems.
  • Documentation: Create comprehensive engineering documents, including piping specifications, equipment datasheets, and material requisitions, for procurement and construction purposes. Deliver complete and accurate design documents that have been thoroughly backchecked for review and approval by a Senior Designer.
  • Quality Control: Review and approve piping drawings, models, and specifications to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to project goals.
  • Field Support: Collaborate with construction teams during installation and commissioning, addressing design-related queries, conducting site visits, and resolving issues that arise during the construction phase. Perform fieldwork necessary to gather data, check tie-ins, verify design vs. P&IDs, and provide construction support.

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Engineer or a related field having atleast 6-8+ years of experience in relevant field of Position applied.
  • Proven experience in piping design, engineering, or related roles.
  • Proficiency in using software for piping design (AutoCAD, CADWorx, NavisWorks, Revit, Plant3D, SolidWorks, etc.), MS Office Suite, PDF Editor (Bluebeam). Maximum experience on Revit shall be preferred Procore, BIM360, MS Teams or other online platforms.
  • Familiarity with piping codes and standards (ASME B31.3, API, etc.).
  • Knowledge of stress analysis software (CAESAR II, Pipe Stress Analysis, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of process/water industries, project management, and safety practices.
  • Relevant certifications are a plus (Professional Engineer, Certified Piping Designer, etc.).
  • Strong English skills required. 
  • Teamwork - Balances team and individual responsibilities.  Contributes to building a positive team spirit. Exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views.  Gives and welcomes feedback.  Puts success of team above own interests.
  • Good planning skills of his time and for the design team, if necessary.
