Welder

Position Overview

  • The welder will have the responsibility to run multiple activities related to the welding processes of sheet metal in a Switchgear and transfer switches manufacturing environment.
  • She/he will be accountable to fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment using welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools. Responsible to set up, operate and maintain welding equipment, understand, and implement personal and company safety measures by wearing specialized goggles, helmets, and gloves. Activities are monitored and assigned by Fabrication lead.
  • The welder will read and review blueprints for each job to fabricate and finish job to products specification and tolerances marked on the prints.

 

What are the responsibilities?

  • Ability to work in a team on complex tasks and get the tasks completed in a timely manner.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and knowledge of multiple welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, arc and/or oxy-fuel welding.   
  • Capable to work with welding tools.
  • Detail oriented to ensure proper fabrication work is done in a timely manner and with the quality expected by the customer.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ability to work daily/weekend overtime as required to meet production demand.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices.

 

What knowledge/skills, education, and experience is required for this position?

  • Able to read and write.
  • At least 2 years experience reading and understanding blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for 10 hours.
  • Ability to operate welding tools.
  • Knowledge of various welding techniques, including TIG, MIG, arc, and oxy-fuel welding
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • High School Education, technical school, or GED equivalent

 

What additional knowledge/skills, education and experience would be beneficial for this position?

  • Community college or technical school.
  • Experience (+3 years).
