The Team: We are the Member-to-Member Communications Team at eBay, responsible for building eBay’s instant messaging system and applications for our sellers and buyers, where millions of messages are exchanged every day on our platform. The Role: We are looking for a senior staff software engineer to work in Member-to-Member communications group that enables email/chat communication between eBay users across global sites. You will work on large scale applications processing millions of transactions in a minute. As a self-motivated and enthusiastic member of our team, you will work with talented peers in a fun environment building world class products. You will work in an agile environment with a focus on problem solving and engineering excellence. Responsibilities: Build solutions using your strong background in large scale web applications. Research, analyze, design, develop and test the solutions that are appropriate for the business and technology strategies. Participate in design discussions, code reviews and project related team meetings Work with other engineers, Architecture, Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet business needs. Develop technical & domain expertise and apply to solving product challenges. Qualifications: 10+ years of experience crafting & developing highly scalable distributed platforms and services and internet scale web applications. BSCS, BSEE, MSEE or MSCS, PhD or similar technical degree. Expert hands on experiences in Java/J2EE, SOAP, SOA Services, Design Patterns, OOA/D , Data Structures, XML, REST, JSON, and Internet Protocols. Deep architectural understanding of system design and lead project to completion and must have solid knowledge and experiences with relational database (oracle) and/or noSQL data technologies (Mongo, Cassandra, Couchbase), ElasticSearch and related toolset. Strong collaboration skills and ability to influence a multi-functional and cross-geography team to deliver results. Experience driving architecture discussions, producing well-documented design docs, participating in design and code reviews and contributing to coding and unit testing of fault-tolerant applications. Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures and algorithms along with up-to-date knowledge in advancement in Web technologies and drive innovation. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
