Job description 

How You Will Contribute:

  • The Lead Engineer Platform Software will be responsible for development and supporting embedded platform firmware across BMC (Board Management Controller), BIOS/UEFI bootstrap firmware, and secure ONIE multi-stage bootstrap including Linux BSP (Board Support Package) and Linux device drivers for platform hardware development programs. The role is responsible overall system-level board management and bootstrap to Linux boot in collaboration with functions such as Hardware Design, Logic Design, Power and Thermal Design, Project Management, Component Engineering, Document Control, SCO (Supply Chain Operations), CM (Contract Manufacturing), and product release support in order to deliver a Linux platform to host OS and application OS software and QA teams. The role is part of an R&D organization that designs, releases and sustains Packet Switching and Router products and associated optics and accessories for deployment in large telco carriers, MSOs, and enterprise managed service providers.   Products range from desktop, to pizzabox, to outdoor ruggedized units.  For x86-based systems, BMC firmware supports power control/monitoring, thermal control/monitoring, clock control/monitoring, reset control, BIOS/UEFI programming/upgrade, as well as, IPMI for remote administration, monitoring, and recovery of the system.  For x86-based systems, BIOS/UEFI firmware supports the basic I/O of the system to load the first-stage Linux-based ONIE loader in order to load the target host kernel OS of the system.  For ARM or MIPS-based systems, integrated firmware provides the equivalent BMC, BIOS, and bootstrap capabilities.  Embedded firmware and bootstrap software shall support root-of-trust secure booting, including vendor and customer certificate management:

 

  • Development of embedded software applications targeted for PPC processor applications needed for hardware design verification and manufacturing testing.
  • Linux Driver & Diagnostic development responsibilities for Ciena Packet Networking Platforms
  • Individual will participate in the development of drivers for application software as well as work on a suite of diagnostics that provides low level access/verification of system design elements as well as fully configuring and exercising the control and data paths to enable design debug and verification, as well as provide a robust and high coverage manufacturing test suite.
  • Varied assignments will require solid knowledge in control plane as well as device driver development/integration for data plane elements.

The Must Haves:

 

  • Linux Driver/Middleware development for Embedded platforms
  • Strong diagnostic/SW design/coding/debug/test skills
  • Significant experience developing low level drivers &/or diagnostics for elements of Telecomm/Datacomm switching/Networking Platforms
  • Experience working with ONT, PON, G-PON technology, OMCI stack, Y.1731, RFC2544 etc
  • Experience working with Network Processors, MACs,  Control Processors, physical layer., TDM, I2C and SERDES devices etc
  • Strong experience working on large complex software bases
  • Well organized coding styles with experience developing with new and existing code bases.
  • Individual must work well in a team environment as position requires working closely, and in a coordinated fashion, with other Hardware and Software engineers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to interface effectively with subordinates, peers and other Stakeholders.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Electronics and Telecommunication /Computer Science with 10+ years of Related experience.
