The Role: Research Analyst
The Team: The S&P Global’s Costs and Supply Chain group, is concerned with tracking and forecasting oilfield services markets. The team tracks supply, demand and cost dynamics in categories such as steel, Rigs, labour, equipment, EPM, Bulks, onshore land rigs, pressure pumping and proppant.

Responsibilities :
The Research Analyst functions as a core member of the Cost Research team to provide quantitative research providing valuable insights to clients. The Research Analyst will be responsible for surveying a portfolio of market segments and presenting key findings in the form of reports, presentations and through our online news service. The position will involve direct contact with our clients, and you will be expected to present research at client events. The Analyst will be expected to take initiative in identifying and solving more complex problems independently and utilize knowledge of their assigned disciplines to produce carefully vetted, quantitative products and written work.
Job Duties:
The analyst’s core work product will be regular reports that publish three to four times a year in the form of power point slide decks and accompanying excel spreadsheet data files.
Understanding and modelling structures and dynamics of defined market segments in the energy business
Estimating and forecasting cost trends and market values
Identifying supply and demand trends
Customized project-based consulting work including identifying, negotiating, executing and presenting project opportunities.
Contribute to consulting projects as required and as driven by business needs by working under the direction of a consulting project leader, seeking out peer review of materials and by providing subject matter expertise in areas of assigned disciplines to support delivery of high-quality client-specific projects.
Respond to client research-related questions of various complexity segments by providing timely insight and utilize resources and judgement to address questions and/or refer questions to appropriate staff in a timely manner to provide customer delight in situations of one-on-one client needs.
What We’re Looking For:
Good knowledge of excel to include the use of functions such as vlookup and the implementation of pivot tables.
Comprehensive understanding of economic principles such as supply and demand and pricing strategies.
Experience in the oil gas service sector to include working for an operator or service provider in a field environment or in the function of procurement, contracting, category management or market intelligence.
Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
At least Bachelor’s degree in the following: statistics, economics, math, engineering. A master’s degree is considered a plus.
