About the Role

As the UW Transformation team takes shape, we are embarking on a new and exciting chapter within P&C Re. We invite you to join us on this journey and become a valuable member of the portfolio UW and Specialty team. In this team, we play a pivotal role in providing the necessary methods, processes, and data to effectively guide the P&C Re business. Additionally, we are the dedicated Specialty team in Bangalore and support Specialty in underwriting, tool development and actuarial tasks. 

We are looking for a candidate with a strong academic record and industry experience in Natural catastrophe and/or non-Cat modelling for our Underwriting Analytics Team at Bangalore. This job offers you a chance to join the dynamic and fast paced world of a highly specialized financial services organization.

You get in-depth exposure to Swiss Re’s proprietary natural perils model platform and costing tools and to natural catastrophe reinsurance business from Swiss Re's global client base. Depending upon your inclination and skills, over time you will have the opportunity to widen your roles in multiple areas.

Position Summary

Provide high quality Nat cat underwriting and Portfolio steering analytics to underwriting desks at Swiss Re which will include but not limited to Special Lines. Your role would involve:

  • You will support an expert for analysis of Specialty treaty business across markets. This includes the reviewing of submission data providing data analysis & risk modelling of Nat Cat and Non-Cat loss scenarios making the best use of SR's costing techniques to model / forecast and quantify the impact of contract features relevant to costing.
  • Support the Portfolio owners/ Desk Heads/Underwriters across markets with analysis of portfolio drivers, prepare consolidated renewal summaries.
  • Collaborating with the underwriting community abroad and other business partners on various projects to generate new valuable services for Swiss Re.
  • During non-renewal times, contribute to other Specialty tools/ nat cat related tasks such as parameter updates

About You/ Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in the field of natural science or a quantitative field (e.g., engineering, statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics) which is closely related to these subject areas
  • Proficient in Property re/insurance underwriting, single-risk assessment, risk modelling and contract preparation, with minimum 2 to 5 years of relevant Underwriting experience
  • Good understanding of underwriting techniques, methods, tools, and processes
  • Ability to analyze large data sets, investigate complex connection and draw relevant conclusion.
  • Expertise in Advance Excel (VBA), SQL and Power BI and inclination towards learning new technologies will be an added advantage.
  • Strong motivation to learn about re/insurance and overseas markets
  • Strong team-player with ability to collaborate with teams in other locations and cultures, along with strong sense of accountability and execution
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken). Other foreign language will be added advantage
  • Above all: scientific and technological curiosity with the ability to bring new insights to constructively challenge the status quo.

The core activities of the analyst will include :   Ownership of tasks related to the design/refinement, testing and implementation of various workstreams related to IFRS based Financial Plan Operation of various financial modelling tools used for the construction of IFRS based Financial Plan for the various Business Units, leading to the construction of balance sheet / income statement / cash flow statements etc. Ownership of various planning related tasks including ad-hoc financial assessment and analysis on the business cases for plan, execution of various controls etc., ensuring issues are raised appropriately Collaborating with the Market Units, Underwriting, Reserving, Investment, Funding, Treasury, and other functions to have complete IFRS based Financial Plan Support and optimize our operational and governance framework to ensure tasks are conducted optimally Support the creation of management meeting material and documentation related to plan   About the Team (Description of the team and context into which the role sits in)   We are the Financial Modelling Team. We are an integral part of the FP&A Infrastructure, Automation & Costs (FIAC) team and sit within the Treasury Department. We work in close collaboration with the Group functions and BU RE FP&A teams on significant topics related to IFRS based Financial Plan. We are jointly responsible for the IFRS based Financial Plan submission as well as spearheading significant refinements/updates to the Planning tools with the aim of making the FP&A systems and processes up to date. This includes both, the operation and the continued improvement of the modelling tools used for IFRS based Financial Planning.
