About the role

Senior Client Underwriter will focus on selecting top clients and building a portfolio that outperforms the market benchmark. A successful Senior Client Underwriter will combine world class origination, client management and Underwriting Excellence skills to develop and foster client relations across all executive and management levels.

 

Key responsibilities may include

  • End-to-end underwriting analysis of core business including risk selection, primarily simple costing, contracts review and structuring; incorporating and improving relevant technology to make informed decisions
  • Grow the core business by developing opportunities in the portfolio in collaboration with relevant specialists and driving toward the principle of "right service right client"
  • Anticipate and understanding competitor products as well as industry, economic and market trends
  • Collaborating with Product Underwriters on the evaluation of treaties, decisive actions within your assigned treaties to meet standards and guidelines
  • Be a senior member of the Client Underwriting team for Swiss Re's P&C business in India
  • Develop and maintain relationship with the senior management, reinsurance decision makers and key influencers of assigned clients
  • Act as a mentor for the team in expressing Swiss Re’s value proposition, developing key accounts, executing strategy, and delivering our services
  • Willing to travel for business purpose

About You

You have demonstrated leadership abilities and a team builder who enjoys working in a multi-cultural team environment.  You pride yourself on your analytical and organizational skills and have exceptional communication and client management skills that help you build and develop relationships with clients and brokers.

  • Minimum of 10-12 years of experience in insurance/reinsurance underwriting, portfolio and/or client management
  • Proficient in English language
  •  Prior experience in treaty analysis and underwriting preferably in property business
  • Familiarity with NATCAT, fire, motor, and liability costing
  • Underwriting judgement and experience with risk selection/evaluation as well as a flair for wording and costing issues
  • Consultancy skills (listen, ask right questions and "connect the dots"), coupled with financial acumen and relevant corporate finance knowledge
  • Understanding of the end-to-end (re)insurance value chain and relevant market knowledge (e.g. trends, competitors, capital markets context)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset (sense of urgency, cost consciousness and personal risk taking), committed to sustainable performance and continuous improvement
  • You encourage others and promote team-work and cooperation across business units.
  • You have demonstrated strategic vision, have a strong business acumen and result orientation.
  • You can think out of the box, roll your sleeves up and are not afraid to take charge of a situation.

Digital Risk’s 1,500+ team members make us one of the largest mortgage outsource providers in the U.S., supplying appraisal and mortgage processing, underwriting and closing to the largest banks and loan originators.   Position Overview: The Underwriter’s primary responsibilities include reviewing mortgage files submitted to Underwriting. This position requires calculating income, analyzing debt and assets, as well as completing an in-depth review of the completed appraisal and title. Additional responsibilities include entering data into the client’s loan operating system, utilizing an automated underwriting system to determine approval and clearing conditions for Final Approval. Candidates must possess a strong sense of urgency with an ability to work in a team environment, maintaining excellent organizational, communication, and PC skills.   Essential Job Functions:  Perform complete and in-depth review of mortgage loan files including; income, assets, credit and collateral  Utilize client’s loan operating system to ensure accurate data entry  Underwrite loans in accordance with client guidelines; utilizing AUS or manual guidelines  Evaluate and ensure overall loan documents are accurate, complete, and compliant  Ability to identify and/or clear red flag or s  Issue loan decision and condition file accordingly  Review and approve conditions for compliance and completion of loan file  Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients  Maintain current knowledge of client and investor requirements  Resolve pre and post-closing issues as they relate to underwriting  Assist Processors/Loan Officers in understanding underwriting decisions and conditions  Must be able to work in a high stress environment while delivering a high-level of customer service  Ability to work more than 40 hours, on an as needed basis.   Requirements:  Minimum 2+ years current conventional mortgage loan underwriting experience o Strong knowledge of income calculations, tax returns, reading credit reports, identifying red flags o Basic knowledge of appraisal and ability to recognize red flags and ineligible properties  Thorough working knowledge of GSE underwriting guidelines and automated underwriting engines (DU/LP)  Strong analytic, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills  Detail-oriented with strong ability to time manage  Ability to work in a flexible and production-oriented environment  Must be willing and able to work as part of a team  Strong capability to work in multiple systems - paperless environment  Must be willing to work in strict security environment  NMLS-MLO Licensure preferred  Candidates must be available to work outside of normal business hours when necessary   About Digital Risk:   Skills PRIMARY COMPETENCY : Originations PRIMARY SKILL : Underwriter PRIMARY SKILL PERCENTAGE : 100
