About the Role 

You will join a small team engineering and supporting DevSecOps solutions in Microsoft Azure. You will provide your technical expertise in engineering of new products as well as improving existing ones using innovative and practical approaches aligned with the governance standards and current methodologies. One day you might be creating, and testing terraform; another managing our Azure Kubernetes Cluster; while the next increasing the observability of one of our products. 

In this role, you will also be responsible for collaborating with global teams and external partners during all phases of the product development lifecycle. 

Specific job responsibilities include: 

• management of our Kubernetes cluster 
• managing our Azure Subscription (e.g. increasing security, managing alerts) 
• Collaborate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment, security and high availability in the Cloud 
• working closely with our development teams to understand their needs and code infrastructure deployments in terraform 
• keeping documentation concise, accurate and up to date 
• Research new technologies and prototype new ideas 
• contributing to a continual improvement in everything we do e.g., increasing automation, better observability, removal of technical debt 
• Coordination of Bring your own Cloud offering with 3rd party vendors 
• third level on-call support during critical periods 
• Have an impact, by contributing to the Swiss Re Group Must Wins 

The role requires hands-on experience, you will be able to increase your skillset and grow your capabilities through hands-on work. The role comes with the expectation that you will proactively identify issues and pickup work from other team members to complete.

About the team 

We are Base Services Platform as a Service team for IFRS Project in Swiss Re, a small International Team of DevSecOps engineers operating the infrastructure part for the IFRS Closing. We are owning and operating the platform to fulfill the closing of a Subledger in Microsoft Azure. Our top priority is to have everything possible automated to a high level, so we can easily operate and maintain the whole platform. We value good engineering practices and enjoy an open exchange among the team. Continuous Integration and deployment are at the heart of what we do. Also, we put a focus on continuously improving ourselves through regular knowledge exchange. You can expect to work with a diverse array of platforms in Microsoft Azure including Databricks, Azure Kubernetes Services, Azure Data Analytics and Azure Data Factory in an international team. All our code and deployments are managed in Azure DevOps. Every change to our infrastructure is done through code. We are passionate about technology and eager to learn on the go. We closely collaborate with product management, engineering teams and colleagues around the globe to share knowledge and engineer simple yet effective solutions. 

You will have: 

• a degree in applied science, engineering, or computer science (or equivalent applied professional experience) 
• excellent verbal and written communication skills in English 
• a curious mindset and the ability to break complex problems into steppingstones 
• a good general understanding of networking, compute, and security concepts relevant to the public cloud 
• experience in operation of Kubernetes Clusters 
• experience engineering solutions with Microsoft Azure 
• experience with at least one RDBMS (preferable Postgres) 
• experience writing terraform (preferable a Terraform Associate) 
• good skills writing Powershell, Python, Bash 
• good working knowledge of git
