Volvo is seeking a candidate responsible for defining technical requirements, leading component development activities with suppliers, and maintaining existing power electronics modules while developing new ones. The candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams and be involved in RFQ, sourcing, supplier selection, and installation. They will also verify and validate solutions, solve challenges and quality issues, and support functional verification and fault tracing. The ideal candidate should have experience in ECU hardware development and validation, power electronics modules, and strong communication and collaboration skills. 2-5 years of automotive product development experience and knowledge of automotive charging standards are preferred.

Job description 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define technical requirements and lead component development activities with the supplier following Volvo GTT processes & guidelines
  • Maintain the Power electronics module hardware that already in production and develops new one catering to charging roadmap of Volvo Electromobility
  • He/she will act as interface with cross functional team like system, software etc.,
  • Support with RFQ, sourcing and supplier selection process
  • Review supplier design documents and secure RTS
  • Secure installation requirements
  • Ensuring solutions are verified and validated against requirements
  • Be an active member of our agile team working with the JIRA backlog and secure product documentation and release processes
  • Solve challenges in current products and solve quality issues as needed
  • Support functional verification and fault tracing in vehicles as well as in rigs and lab environment.


Competence and relevant experience:

  • He/She is expected to have a know-how on end to end ECU hardware development and Validation/Power electronics modules like DCDC, Motor control etc.
  • Exposure EMI/EMC and other product Validation
  • Exposure towards DFMEA and other quality tools
  • Good exposure towards ECU development
  • Power electronics experience is preferred not compulsory
  • Strong communication skills and proven collaboration skills
  • 2-5 years of automotive product development experience
  • Knowledge of automotive charging standards
  • BE/MTech in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Great team player with agile mindset
  • Volvo GTT systems, process and tools knowledge is an asset

9+ years related industry experience in designing power electronics hardware, for Solar Inverters, UPS, EV charger (or) Drives. Be able to evaluate, specify, implement, validate and troubleshoot power components: IGBTs, MOSFETs and gate drive circuits, high power capacitors, chokes/inductors, transformers etc. Experiance in multilevel Bi-directional inverter, LLC resonant converter design. Good knowledge on various modulation control schemes for single phase and three phase inverter topologies. Experiance in digital and analog controller design. Define, analyze and measure control performance parameters (e.g.: stability, response time etc..) as applied to power electronics. Experience and knowledge on various battery technologies, Analog and Digital Design. Experiance in circuit design and modeling through a combination of computer simulation, laboratory implementation/testing and troubleshooting to meet functional specifications. Experiance in using simulation tools Mathcad, PSPICE, Matlab/simulink,Plecs, PSIM etc.. Responsible for selection and design of power semiconductors, gate drive circuit, magnetic devices, capacitors and power drive circuits to meet the cost.. Knowledge of Design FMEA Hands on experiance in EMI and EMC as applied to high power electronics product. Experiance in signal processing and digital control algorithm implementation using micro-controllers or DSPs. To work with Project managers in review of Product Manuals, application notes, service documentation etc. To support factory team for the industrialization.. Qualifications M.Tech/ P.hd in power electronics from IIT/NIT's with 9+ years industry experiance.
