More about the Jira Frontend Platform group: We are the Jira Frontend Platform team focusing primarily on Developer Productivity. Atlassian is looking for a Principal Frontend Engineer to build our web frontend systems and tools that allow our Jira product teams to deliver great experiences to our users. Your daily work will help our fellow Atlassian engineers work more productively, deliver effortlessly, and your decisions will improve Atlassian's overall product quality. What's the principal engineer's role? As an Engineer well into your career, we know you're an expert at what you do and have a range of experience across multiple technologies. You take pride in being someone who more junior members look up to and sharing your expertise with others. That's why we're placing a heavy emphasis on leaning on your expertise to take on a high level of responsibility while being a role model to others on the team. What you'll do You'll set the technical direction for the team that builds the tools hundreds of Jira frontend engineers use daily to ship high-quality experiences to our customers productively. You'll contribute to a core piece of the Jira developer experience and the development lifecycle ranging from automated testing tools, type checking, code quality, and improvements to the development loop. You'll play a crucial role in the Jira Frontend platform strategy. You'll create solutions that are used by other teams and products in Atlassian. You'll mentor and inspire engineers on the team and set them up for success. You'll guide complex initiatives across teams and create impact across products. Lead code reviews, documentation, and other engineering standards. Make data-driven solutions to set the standards for building tools.

It's great, but not required if you have Experience working on platform teams. Experience optimizing applications at scale. Knowledge of open-source libraries and frameworks (for example, logging, wiring, testing, and building tools) Some industry experience with public cloud offerings (e.g., AWS, GAE, Azure)

Key attributes for candidates

10+ years of experience building large-scale frontend applications

Understanding of modern frontend ecosystem, including bundling, linting, testing and releasing.

Experience designing/architecting platforms at scale.

System mindset that considers edge cases, observability, error handling, and integration across external systems.

Experience debugging problems across systems/repositories and designing solutions that span the whole stack.

An appetite for platform mindset, building tools, and setting standards.
