With customer proven capabilities, Ciena’s Routing and Switching Portfolio (RSP) team is enhancing and advancing its Routing, Switching and Carrier Ethernet Solutions to take advantage of worldwide market opportunities as Service Providers virtualize their networks and unify their legacy networks. We’re looking for motivated and talented individuals with extensive experience with Project Management to join the RSP team in San Jose, California, Ottawa, Canada and other North American remote working locations. You will take an experienced and influential role contributing to the project management team and will be responsible for keeping track of software development, hardware development, and testing deliverables for various project releases. The Project Manager will be handling multiple releases in parallel. This position will be the main interface between the India and North America (San Jose and Ottawa) teams and the Ciena Product Line Management and Customer Account Teams.

What will you do at Ciena?

• Lead the communication and collaboration between multiple Ciena teams as well as Customer Account Teams
• Respond to and handle any critical customer situations that arise as a representative of Ciena and the core brand and values
• Facilitate and manage the flow of communication between customers and the relevant teams and organizations within Ciena
• Schedule and manage meetings with and between customers, Engineering team(s), account teams and other appropriate individuals via teleconference and/or face-to_face
• Bridge communication gaps between the RSP organization (Hardware/Software Engineering, Development, Testing, etc.) and the Global Field Organization (Sales, Systems Engineering, Customer Service, etc.) regarding the status of various Engineering projects and products
• Work closely with account teams to ensure understanding of customer requirements and expectations
• Advocate proposals and plans to customers on behalf of Ciena Engineering
• Quickly gain understanding of technical details from the appropriate resources to communicate them to relevant customer and Ciena personnel
• Work with SMEs to provide direct Engineering engagement with customers
• Lead and track the information flow throughout the situation, ensuring those working on the issue have the latest understanding at all times
• Communicate and relate with customers to elicit confidence and collaboration throughout the situation until it is resolved
• Actively and aggressively work with both Ciena and customer personnel to ensure quickest possible resolution of the situation
• Represent our Customer First value as a representative of the Ciena brand

Required Skills:

• Solid understanding of project and program management

• Awareness of Software and Hardware development processes in relevant technology field, gained by direct experience

Education and Experience:

• Master’s or Bachelor’s in computer science or related discipline.
• PMI Certification is preferred
• 10-15 years of relevant work experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effectively able to collaborate with multiple teams across geographically diverse area.
• Experience applying influence, consultative and negotiating skills in a matrixed leadership team
• Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to work at a detailed level in a fast-paced environment
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to navigate through a complex organization
• Proven knowledge and abilities in the principles of change management and process improvement.
