OVERVIEW

Senior Software Engineering Manager – WebPlat 

The new Microsoft Edge web browser, based on the Chromium open-source project, is thriving. The browser is the most-used class of application on Windows and other platforms, and Microsoft Edge is currently used by hundreds of millions of users. 

The Edge Web Experiences team is chartered to partner with and augment the Chromium Web Platform, build the cross-platform web application capabilities and developer tools that help web developers build, test, debug, optimize and deploy their sites and cross-platform web applications more productively. We also leverage our deep understanding of the platform to build consumer-focused features in Edge that deeply integrate with in-page experiences and content (recent examples include richer find-on-page, ML-driven input text prediction, and built-in VPN capabilities). 

Our goal is to help make web an excellent canvas that developers choose for their creations that span across Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and more. We partner closely with several teams across Microsoft - VS Code, TypeScript, Visual Studio, Office, Surface, Xbox, Windows to enable developers to build great applications using web technologies. We are deeply engaged in the Chromium OSS project and continue to work closely with other browser vendors, web standards bodies, and the open-source community at large.  

We are looking for an engineering leader to help us enhance the capabilities of various parts of the Web Platform to make the web more capable, more useful, and more private. We have a lot of ideas for the future of the web platform, and we would love yours as well.  We are looking for an individual with a great sense of customer empathy, rely on data driven decision making, have a passion for disruptive new ideas and enjoy driving innovation while balancing focused execution. The ideal candidate is hands on engineering leader who motivates the team to achieve more, works across team boundaries and collaborates with partners. We are looking for experienced manager who exemplifies Model, Coach and Care and have a deep technical understanding of web development are ideal for these roles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities:  

• Plan and prioritize work for your team, including collaborating with partner organizations.  You will be leading highly talented technically diverse team of developers and expected to provide technical direction 
• Rigorous quality engineering practices across all phases of product development and deployment  
• Accountable for engineering design and technical guidance to large feature area, understand the technical details of a complex area and review the code in depth 
• Provide oversight and accountability for technical decisions.   
• Partner with program managers, data analytics and your peer engineering teams to define and design new features that delight developers and users.  
• Gain proficiency in the Chromium web platform in select areas 
• Create an inclusive environment that attracts and retains high-performing engineers.   
• Grow your engineering team, Invest in people on your team, nurture them though coaching and caring 
• Foster a collaborative relationship with customers, partner teams and the open-source community.  

QUALIFICATION

Basic Qualifications : 

• 10+ years of professional industry experience working on large projects  
•  3+ years of people management experience with managing team of seven plus individuals  
• A BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline   
• Consistent track record of shipping compelling technologies across multiple product release cycles. 
• Excellent design, coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills  
• Ability to design performant, highly usable, scalable, world-ready, accessible software .  

Preferred Qualifications  

• Experience in Microsoft .NET technologies (C# and .NET Framework) and/or competitive offerings 
• Experience with Windows architecture and internals is a plus 
• Experience building software utilizing Web technologies, including HTML, CSS, React, and JavaScript  
• Windows app development and UX experiences  
• Multi-threaded application development  
• Experience working on the Chromium Open Source codebase  
• Effective collaboration skills driving changes at scale
