About the job

At Google, our philosophy is build it, break it and then rebuild it better. That thinking is at the core of how we approach testing at Google. Unlike roles with similar names at the other companies, Test Engineers at Google aren't manual testers -- you write scripts to automate testing and create tools so developers can test their own code. As a Test Engineer, you navigate Google's massive codebase, identify weak spots and constantly design better and creative ways to break software and identify potential problems. You'll have a huge impact on the quality of Google's growing suite of products and services.

You use your knowledge of testing and testability to influence better software design, promote proper engineering practice, bug prevention strategies, testability, accessibility, privacy, and other advanced quality concepts across products.

Our team is building tooling to evaluate trained models that run on constrained hardware, developing interoperability frameworks to ensure that ecosystems of our device software and partner apps work. Additionally, we’re building highly-scalable virtual device emulator technology to speed developer workflows, and writing the tools that measure and give insight on performance bottlenecks in our devices and systems.

Google TV is redefining the TV experience to make it highly personalized, Google-smart, and content-forward to help users access the world’s media. Through recent launches like Chromecast with Google TV, we bring together the best of Google. Google TV is focused on scaling across the OEM ecosystem; working closely with third-party streaming partners plus many teams across Google (for example: Ads, Play, and YouTube); and building a business on TV platforms, OTT devices, and mobile devices. With over 110 million active users of our products plus being amidst the quickly evolving media and entertainment industry, there are plenty of opportunities for the team and individuals in it.

Responsibilities
  • Develop test strategy for smart home products/features, as well as develop virtualization and device simulators based automated feature validation.
  • Build a stable and reliable automated test suited to validate Google devices working together in a continuous integration system. Validate algorithms running on devices and validate improvements to ship high quality products.
  • Develop test hooks to monitor code health and system stability.
  • Identify key product indicators and build analytics that drive new features and improvements.
  • Assist with root-cause failures and indicator changes, through automated analysis.
