Your Job
Molex Material Science and Process Technology Group is seeking a Plating Engineer (R&D) to join our team based out of Bangalore, India. This individual will be working closely with the process and material teams globally (US-SE Asia) to electrochemically characterize in-house plating chemistries (process window, efficiency), develop new plating alloys for superior performance (durability, wear and corrosion resistance, CoF) and troubleshoot in-line plating operations for a wide range of products. Ideal candidate is a smart, quick, positive, and confident collaborator. As a Plating Engineer, you will work on multiple projects, while collaborating with industry experts to advance the understanding and capabilities of Molex’s surface finishes. If you share our passion for creating value, if you are entrepreneurial and customer focused, we would like you to join our team.
Our Team
You will be a member of our cross functional product team and work closely with the manufacturing engineers and other partners that build our electronic products. In this role, you will be responsible for setting the foundation of our manufacturing strategy; optimizing and designing the production processes through R&D and scale-up, determine product performance testing standards resulting in a robust manufacturing process capable of meeting our customers’ requirements.
What You Will Do
- Generates and provides analysis on electrochemical data (corrosion rates, polarization and/or impedance data) and bath life of plating chemistries (Ni, Sn, Au and alloys) for a wide range of products.
- Designs and executes experiments and tests. Compiles and evaluates test data to determine optimal conditions, and appropriate limits and variables for process or product specifications.
- Hands-on lab scale analysis of manufacturing operations, along with upstream processes such as parts cleaning and surface preparation along with analytical and performance testing of coatings.
- Collaborate with product cross functional teams to understand roadmaps, identifying and defining problems, technical requirements and establishing timelines to drive solutions into production.
- Proactively search for new surface finishing technologies and provide analysis to determine suitability for implementation.
- Establishes quality documentation for new processes including PFMEA/Control Plans, work Instructions, training plans and performance specifications.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Have a relevant degree in Chemical Engineering or Material Science with a strong working knowledge of electrochemistry (RDE, RCE, Hull cell equipment).
- 2- 5 years of experience in R&D for product design and manufacturing processes.
- Familiar with working in a chemical laboratory. Experience in surface preparation and analytical techniques.
- In-dept understanding and working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and/or Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Knowledge of wear mechanisms of contacts finishes (friction, wear, fretting)
- Excellent people skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently with diverse teams, customers, internal and external partners.
- Collaboration/ Matrix environment mindset. Ability to manage projects and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of various manufacturing assembly processes like stamping and molding.
What Will Put You Ahead
- 3+ years in advanced product/process manufacturing development and design.
- Interest in advanced technology (plating simulation) and a desire to learn.
- Experience in reel to reel, barrel, electroless plating is a plus.
