Assistant Director, Policy Research

The opportunity
The volume and complexity of legal and regulatory requirements EY is required to meet continues to grow and as a result the quality of EY policies is required to continually improve. The current opportunity to join the Executive Risk Management (RM) Policy team provides the successful candidate an opportunity to research best practice in corporate policy and support the delivery of new and refreshed policies across the organisation.

The role also offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work with senior members of the Policy team, the Risk Management Executive Committee, and across business enablement functions and service lines more broadly to increase visibility and awareness of EY policies.  They will report to the Associate Director for Policy Content.

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will be asked to:

  • Work with other functions (legal, markets, other risk management teams) to scan the landscape for emerging issues that may require policy actions or solutions – for example changes to regulations or to EY’s corporate context
  • Review academic papers on business best practice
  • Consider how this external research and horizon-scanning should affect EY policies and produce recommendation papers for EY seniors and governance
  • Support the development of new and refreshed policies through effective project management, guidance and policy drafting where required
  • Work with the policy ops team on the design and maintenance of policy content management
  • Work with other functions (communications and learning) on policy implementation.

The Policy team is a global, virtual team with members in several locations, including a core team of policy support staff. The successful candidate will be required to travel occasionally for one-to-one and team meetings.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to generate and communicate insights from complex information
  • Ability to understand policy topics at a level appropriate for drafting policy, identifying policy impacts, and managing policy stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, and able to consider the needs of different audiences
  • A strong team player, comfortable working collaboratively, virtually, and independently
  • Ability to work in a high pace, agile environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, managing multiple priorities effectively

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Experience of researching complex cross-border issues
  • Experience in distilling this research into effective recommendations, for a senior audience
  • Experience of working collaboratively in a diverse team
  • Understanding of the Risk Management function, key stakeholders and influencers
  • Understanding of EY client serving professionals’ challenges and goals
  • Experience or interest in content management
  • Experience writing and implementing policies, while not compulsory, would be preferred
