Principal Engineer/ Technical Discipline Lead – Hydrologist (UK Water)
Arcadis is seeking a Principal Hydrologist to join our Water Management division in our GEC office. This role involves working on complex and diverse projects, collaborating with regulators, infrastructure providers, and government bodies. As a Principal Hydrologist, you'll be responsible for leading hydrological studies, estimating design flood flows, managing flood risk assessments, and providing technical expertise. We are looking for individuals with a degree in a related field, technical leadership skills, and experience in various hydrological methodologies and assessments. Role description:
Arcadis are involved in some of the UK’s most complex and diverse projects that are technically demanding and offer considerable potential for learning and development. We are currently seeking a Principal Hydrologist to join our Water Management division in our GEC office. We lead on the delivery of a variety of schemes and are working closely with UK regulators e.g., the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, as well as the UK’s key infrastructure providers (Network Rail, National Highways), Local Government and private developers/investors.

Role accountabilities:
- Setting the technical direction for hydrological studies
- Estimation of design flood flows and hydrographs
- Providing technical input into flood risk management and water resource projects
- Oversee the production of flood risk assessments.
- Managing components of projects, taking responsibility for personal time and resource management, coordinating team members and quality assurance
- Providing input to project teams, leading by example to achieve sector goals and championing quality and innovation.
- Assisting and participating in developing yourself and other team members to their full potential
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in an appropriate analytical subject (Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Engineering Hydrology)
- Technical leadership:
- Essential: Ability to apply hydrological methodologies (e.g., Flood Estimation Handbook)
- Essential: Ability to lead and carry out flood risk assessments
- Desirable: Experience in water resource assessments, undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments and preparing Environmental Statements
- Desirable: Experience of Surface Water Management Plans and SuDS
- Demonstrable track record in Quality Assurance procedures
- Competent in the use of ArcPro and QGIS
- Report writing
- Experience of team and line management
