Software Development Engineer III

A high performing individual contributor who acts as a mentor to more junior engineers, applies new engineering principles to improve existing systems, and is responsible for leading complex, well-defined projects

 

What you’ll do:

• Effectively applies knowledge of software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions
• Effectively applies knowledge of databases and database design principles to solve data requirements
• Effectively uses the understanding of software frameworks and how to leverage them to write simpler code
• Leads/clarifies code evolution in code reviews
• Brings together different stakeholders with varied perspectives to develop solutions to issues, and contributes own suggestions
• Thinks holistically to identify opportunities around policies/ processes to increase efficiency across organizational boundaries
• Assists with a whole systems approach to analyzing issues by ensuring all components (structure, people, process and technology) are identified and accounted for
• Identifies areas of inefficiency in code or systems operation and offer suggestions for improvements
• Compiles and reports on major operational or technical initiatives (like RCAs) to larger groups, whether via written or oral means

 

Who you are:
•Developed software in at least 3 different languages
• Maintained/ran at least 4 software project/product in production environments (bug fixing, troubleshooting, monitoring, etc.) Functional/ Technical Skills
• Has strength in a couple languages and/or one language with multiple technology implementations
• Identifies strengths and weaknesses among languages for particular use cases
• Creates API's to be consumed across the business unit
• Selects among technology available to implement and solve for need
• Understands how projects/teams interact with other teams

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $128,500.00 to $180,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $205,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

 

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.

The Enterprise Data Management and Governance (EDMG) organization is looking for Director - Enterprise Data Management Governance.   In this role, you will work to develop and enable various Data Governance capabilities and functions across Expedia Group. Develop best in class Data Governance capabilities and drive adoption of those capabilities to ensure Data is managed and governed through its lifecycle thereby maximizing the value from our data, meeting our regulatory requirements and driving business value.   What you’ll do: Develop and communicate data management policies, standards and capabilities to govern data effectively through its lifecycle. Manage a team of Data Governance analysts, providing a clear vision, roadmap and path forward for Data Governance Capabilities Partner closely with various Technology and product teams to ensure data governance standards and practices are adopted Understand the roadmap and key dependencies across various initiatives and drive adoption of Data regulatory and retention requirements Partner closely with Privacy and security teams to ensure we have the right governance around data privacy and security standards Effectively partner with other Data management leads in driving a unified vision for Data Governance Automate Data governance capabilities were possible to ensure there is no data duplication and data is used for the right purposes with the right controls Develop Data Governance KPIs and report on them to leadership on a regular basis Generate reports of business domain/initiative performance to inform monthly Executive Data Council status meetings Act as the primary point of contact working with data management leadership and strategic initiatives to streamline communication and drive accountability on Data Governance efforts Provide consultative services for assigned business areas for data needs helping specify requirements for data requests, especially to reduce duplicate and nonessential requests, and prioritize requests Be a data evangelist, effectively communicating the data strategy and driving adoption   Who you are: Solid understanding of data platforms and data strategies for large scale organizations Experience with data management and data governance practices and processes at-scale In-depth knowledge and experience of data governance terminology, industry standards, concepts, business processes and systems Experience collaborating on a cross-functional and cross-geography team Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey sophisticated and abstract concepts to both technical and business teams, peers, and leadership Outstanding influencing skills, including experience working within a large matrix organization Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of peers and key stakeholders; mobilize and motivate teams; set direction and approach; resolve conflict; deliver tough messages with grace; execute with limited information and ambiguity Strong technical background and experience working on cloud technologies preferred AWS Ability to look for automation opportunities and leverage technology as an enabler Self-starter with ability to make independent decisions and perform with minimal supervision and a sense of urgency Experience understanding relationships between data sets and driving consistent best practices for managing data High attention to detail 5+ years of hands-on data management and governance experience 3+ years’ experience working on cloud technologies 5+ years working on SQL and noSQL database technologies, data lake and data warehouses   The total cash range for this position in Austin is $207,500 to $290,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $332,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.   The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $191,000 to $267,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $305,500, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.   The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $207,500.00 to $290,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $332,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.   Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
