Position Overview:
Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) is looking for Associate Test Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to work in the Structural, Material, Environmental and Mechanical Test capability for the existing and future production aircraft testing purposes. This position will be located in the Boeing India Engineering and Technology Center, Bangalore, India and reports to the Manager – Structures Test, Boeing Test & Evaluation India.
Position Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will perform the following duties:
Responsible to support structural, mechanical, environmental and material properties test programs for various Boeing Divisions, including Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA), Boeing Defense Systems (BDS), and Boeing Space Programs.
Gathers test requirements, instrumentation and configuration definition, select appropriate sensors, data acquisition systems, signal conditioning, and communication interfaces.
Performs the system design, fabrication, integration, modification, setup, checkout, teardown and documentation of instrumentation and test control systems to achieve test requirements.
Identifies test requirements and determines test methods.
Integrates test hardware, software and systems to fulfill all test requirements
Solves problems and resolves instrumentation system, transducer, and test-related problems
Analyzes, reviews and validates test data to ensure test instrumentation hardware and software readiness
Formulates expectations for test data based on historical data.
Supports development of test debrief material.
Participate in evaluation of test performance data.
Conducts research in test technologies to improve efficiency and capability
Interact with other test laboratories in the company and develop unique solutions for data acquisition and instrumentation systems to solve challenging engineering problems.
Performs functions as required to ensure instrumentation system readiness and data validity
Participate in test readiness reviews, safety reviews and data/control systems checkout to minimize risk.
Familiar with regulatory framework (DO-160, FAA and Mil-Spec), for warranting safety and regulatory compliance.
Conduct research in test technologies to improve lab efficiency and capability
Help to lead in the current and future direction of the Boeing Structures Testing capability across the Boeing Enterprise.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
General knowledge across a wide range of environmental effects and electronic, electrical, software engineering disciplines.
3+ years of experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting instrumentation systems for military and/or commercial aircraft programs
3+ years of experience with open and closed loop feedback control systems
3+ years of experience with instrumentation and/or data acquisition systems
3+ years of experience working in a lab test, flight test, or similar test environment
3+ years of experience with MTS FlexTest controllers and/or MTS AeroPro Test Control Software
Hands-on Experience with control systems such as PLC or SCADA and their programming.
Experience with data acquisition system attributes (e.g. range, accuracy, frequency responses, bandwidth) to define characteristics of measurements to be recorded
Experience with precision test, measurement devices, and sensor selection
Experience in planning and implementing instrumentation activities for test programs
Experience with hydraulic control systems for static and fatigue testing in a lab environment
Experience directly supporting flight/lab test operations
Experience with transducer and sensor physics with the ability to make hardware selections appropriate to measure physical phenomena
Experience with lab hydraulic control and power systems: servos, actuators, load cylinders, manifolds
Experience with sensors including accelerometers, strain gages, thermocouples, load cells, and LVDT devices.
Knowledge of EMI/EMC test requirements is an added advantage
Knowledge of DO-160 certification requirements, creation of Qualification Plans, procedure and processes is a plus.
Demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Be fluent in written and spoken English.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Mechanic / Electrical / Aerospace / Automobile / Industrial / or equivalent Engineering Bachelor or higher degree with 5 to 9 years of relevant work experience in control systems and the instrumentation.
