What you’ll be doing– your accountabilities
This role is accountable for, and leads the teams that deliver across three key areas: Product, Customer Success and Expert Engineering & Modernisation.
Product Ownership
Collectively product owners, platform owners and enterprise architects use platform thinking to drive platform evolution. In architecture we are using platform thinking to drive highly efficient and automated platforms for our development community that will enable ease of secure by default, fast to value code and modern engineering practices. This role is accountable for the following:
• Building and leading a team of individual product owners for the portfolio of services offered by the platforms within Digital Architecture (Integration, DevOps tools, Cloud, internal developer platform, data fabric)
• Accountable for the portfolio & product definition, strategy, plan and roadmap.
• Directs and prioritises c.£10 million investment p.a.
• Envisions and directs development of product roadmaps for the entire customer journey.
• Ensures the product(s) or services(s) are customer driven, customer first with a strong influential feedback loop in place that drives their feature roadmap.
• Accountable for the end-to-end customer experience for users of the product portfolio.
• Accountable for priority conflicts across product backlog.
• Defines the targets and measurement framework for product ownership.
• Collaborates with the enterprise architects in their technology selection, with business context, need & pain points and drives innovation into the product.
Customer Success
• Owns the customer experience across all platforms and products within Digital Architecture and leads the aligned customer success team.
• Owns the customer success methodology and process that the team will execute on.
• Drives continuous service improvement framework, including defining the approach for topics like:
• well-architected reviews,
• service improvement plans,
• spend optimisation,
• security posture; and
• ways of working
• Ensures customer experience is measured and appropriate KPIs/OKRs are in place for the team
The skills you’ll need to succeed
Qualifications and General skills
• Must have demonstrable experience (10+ years) in technical / product leadership role within agile environments. Has experience of setting technology/product strategy, product roadmaps.
• Experience of modern application development, i.e. public cloud technologies and CI/CD
• Excellent stakeholder management skills at CxO and engineering level. Experience of running communities of interest.
• Applies product thinking to delivery of digital services.
• A technologist able to challenge technical alongside business value. Good understanding of strategic and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing and emerging technologies to new ways of engineering
• Customer focused: You will understand the internal customer needs and keep customer satisfaction at the forefront of your work.
• Ability to translate strategic goals into transformation/product plans.
• Proactive problem-analysis and design-thinking skill and capability to offer up innovative ideas to the business and others in BT.
• Commercial acumen to ensure engineering platforms & products are defined and delivered from a techno-economic perspective to ensure we have the right solution for the right price, considering total cost to BT – not just the IT cost.
• Ability to collaborate, negotiate and influence disparate & varied groups Pan-BT to buy in to the engineering platforms product vision in a way that is relevant to them, their technical goals and drive the medium to long-term transformation in single direction.
• Engages with and provides thought leadership to a broad community of over 5,000 engineers and experts across the organisation, to deliver a best in class set of engineering platforms and products and modernisation standards.
• Directly accountable for a team and budget of circa 8-15 professionals who deliver a deep level of expertise.
• Develops an industry presence to deliver outside-in thinking and non-telco experiences back into BT.
Experience you’d be expected to have
• Experience as an Engineer or or similar technical leadership role 10+ years in a large corporate organisation.
• Evidence of leading material business change.
• A broad range of data, systems and technology experience
• Proven leadership ability across direct, virtual and peer teams. Leading, inspiring, building trust with project and client staff and stakeholders up to CxO level.
• Experience of agile product ownership, agile methods and technical depth.
