What will you do at Ciena?

The Routing and Switching Portfolio R&D organization is responsible for delivering platform-independent Service Aware Operating System (SAOS) and Access products to support Mobile Backhaul, Enterprise, NFV and White-box based applications in access and aggregation tiers of the network.

PV solution team charter will be to validate deployment use-cases of major customers involving both Ciena and third-party devices. Team will closely work with solution architects and account teams to understand and develop end to end test cases for key customers to next generation products and evolved service architecture. This team will be accountable for the quality of release going to major customers.

 

As part of this team, you will be getting exciting opportunity to work on myriad of technology. PV solution team will employ solution-based testing strategy where test cases will be developed based on customer feature requirements, building into system and ultimately solution test capability. Solution based testing will normally combine customer centric functionality to work in concert to form an end-to-end solution for customer deployment. This team will provide multi-dimensional scale recommendation to be used by the customer.

 

How You Will Contribute:

  • Develop end-to-end manual and automation test strategy to adapt to growing customer networks.
  • Develop, execute, and automate solution test plans to validate customer use-cases and product capabilities.
  • Work closely with engineers from embedded software, network management software, and hardware teams to validate cohesive end-to-end solutions.
  • Build in-depth knowledge of product architecture and ability to root-cause issues.
  • Conducts Knowledge Sharing Sessions (Desirable): Basic to moderate topics, including specific product feature or functional areas related the assigned features.
  • Requires continuous research to ensure software features meet identified standards and product functional requirements.
  • Coordinate with North America test and development teams on a need basis
  • Develop test cases beyond what is described in Functional Spec, including compliancy to commercial specs and RFCs, potential and likely interactions with other features, which may involve complex scenarios and topology.
  • Continuous learning and development of skills in automation and new features
  • Strong commitment to product excellence.

 

The Must Haves:

  • 10+ years of experience in testing.
  • Strong testing experience in at least four domains: OAM (CFM, BFD, FRR), Layer 2 (TDM, LAG, ERPS, MPLS-TP/TE), Signalling Protocols (RSVP, LDP), Layer 3 Protocols (ISIS, OSPF, BGP, IPv6), Latest technology (EVPN, Segment Routing)
  • Excellent knowledge of network design and deployment scenarios in Carrier/Metro Ethernet Space.
  • Excellent understanding and Hands-on experience with L2/L3 topologies.
  • Experience with traffic generators such as Ixia, Spirent
  • Demonstrated ability to automate customer use cases (TCL or Python)
  • Lead by example: Capability to provide technical leadership and demonstrate best practices to peer test engineers.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Position requires proficient troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a motivated, self-starter with demonstrated attention to detail.

 

The Good to Haves:

  • Hands on experience in third party boxes like Cisco would be a significant plus.
  • Netconf/GNMI/Telemetry exposure is an added advantage.
  • Experience with Network Management Systems including knowledge of SNMP & MIBs will be a bonus.
  • Good understanding and hands on experience in Segment routing and EVPN will be a bonus.

Develop, execute, and automate functional test plans to verify product capabilities. Drive authoring of detail feature test-plans, test bed design, test topologies, test executions. Set up complex test beds based on Project requirements. Assist development engineers in product defect diagnosis/debugging and verification of fixes. Develop python scripts for features as part of Automated Testing. Execution of test cases and reporting test results with artifacts using TestRail. Work closely with engineers across teams/geographies to ensure quality for the features. Functional Specifications, Test Plan and Script Reviews: Able to host test plan reviews under guidance for assigned features.   Attend and provide comments specific to the functional requirements for Functional Specifications (FS) reviews for assigned features. Review scripts for the feature being tested/ Automated. Develop test cases beyond what is described in FS, including compliancy to commercial specs and RFCs, potential and likely interactions with other features, which may involve complex scenarios and topology.
